Minor Bay’s July 1 – 7 Trip on Wollaston Lake

by Randy Duvell July 16, 2017

Minor Bay’s July 1 – 7 trip was defined by the weather, as weather continued to cause havoc with the fishing this week.  Temperatures well below seasonal normals, high winds and rain plagued our guests and guides, making the fishing a challenge.  In spite of the nasty weather some nice pike were caught and released during this trip.  TJ Folliott garnered top pike honours with a fat 47-incher.  His dad, Pat wasn’t too far behind TJ with a 45 inch pike.  George Steinmetz Jr. and Sr. caught and released a number of trophy quality pike during their trip to Minor Bay with George Jr.’s 44 incher being the top pike for the father / son team during the week.

Our top ten pike for the trip were: 1 x 47″; 2 x 45″; 1 x 44.5″; 4 x 44″; 1 x 43-5″; and 4 x 43″. Guests caught and released 127 pike over 36 inches and 43 pike over 40 inches during the trip, even though they had to contend with far from ideal weather conditions.

On the bright side, with all the rain the forest fire danger level is very low.  We are still waiting for summer to arrive!
